Vision for GPC 2018-2019

Vision for the Greater Philly UU Cluster 2018-2019

(Approved at the GPC meeting on July 14, 2018)

a) Further develop cohesion of the 14 Cluster congregations
b) Support efforts in which the Cluster congregations may benefit more from working together than working alone:
– advertise/spread the word of UUism
– denominational affairs
– education/training (provided by CER)
– social justice
c) Create a couple of successes to build on

Actions to achieve the goals:

1. Send monthly announcements to Cluster email distribution list and Google GPC group list
2. Send monthly email to Cluster congregations’ communication contacts/ministers/reps with announcements for the Order of Service
– Congregations can also put the info in their newsletters, on website, etc.
3. Post congregations’ events on the Cluster Google calendar
4. Advertise events on Facebook “Greater Philly UUs” Group and GPC Page
5. Maintain information on the Cluster website
6. Link to Cluster website and Google calendar on congregations’ websites
7. Begin to develop advertising resources for Cluster congregations (e.g. MLUC ad in local paper in July/August)

Community Building
1. Request support of vision from Ministers and Board Presidents (in Fall)
2. Continue bimonthly Cluster meetings
3. Recruit representatives from congregations, who currently have no representative
4. Encourage participation in the Guest in Your Pulpit program
5. Participate in a Pride Parade (New Hope in May)
6. Participate in UU Community Weekend in September

Denominational Affairs
1. Encourage attendance at UUA General Assembly in person or via off-site registrant (June)
2. Consider setting up a live streaming video session to watch part of General Assembly (e.g. Ware Lecture)
3. Advertise other regional UU events (e.g. UUMAC)

1. Organize 2 trainings provided by CER:
– Social Justice: Legislative Advocacy (October)
– Congregational Life: Volunteerism (March)
2. Conduct needs assessment of Cluster congregations to identify 2 education/training workshops for CER to conduct in 2019-2020
3. Advertise additional trainings being offered by CER
4. Encourage participation in UULI courses

1. Oversee the new GPC Music Program
2. GPC Music Planning Committee – organize event for singers (Workshop in April 2019)

Social Justice
Support efforts of key social justice issues to enhance congregations’ projects and increase congregations’ participation:
1. Advocacy
2. The Corruption of our Democracy (2016-2020 CSAI)
3. Racial Justice (2014-2018 CSAI)
4. Reproductive Justice (2012-2016 CSAI*)

*CSAI = Congregational Study/Action Issues

We acknowledge that the above list does not address all of the ideas/needs that have been discussed at past Cluster meetings. Those ideas have been moved to a “parking lot” to be considered in the future, once we build momentum and member participation.
