September 2 – 4, 2017
Camp Canadensis, Canadensis, PA (in the Poconos)

An invitation from MLUC to GPUUC church members: For decades, Main Line Unitarian Church members (families, couples, singles) along with a few members of other nearby UU churches have spent the long Labor Day weekend in a lovely summer camp setting starting off the new church year renewing old bonds and making new friends. We relax and play without having to cook, set the table, make the coffee, wash the dishes, or, if we’ve got kids, hover over them or worry if they’re safe.

This long weekend isn’t a church “retreat”. Though we often offer quiet times like Meditation or the Water Ceremony, we refresh our spirituality through the loving community and beautiful surroundings. It’s three days of real vacation. Ministers consider coming, because they know they won’t be “working”; we don’t let them do anything but relax.

Camp Canadensis is a lovely privately owned summer camp with its own lake approximately two hours from Radnor. Its comfortable cabins have private showers, sinks, toilets, twin size bunk beds, electric outlets, and window screens that work! And they have good food at Canadensis.
During the day, you can participate in whatever activities suit you or just relax, read a book or take a snooze. There is plenty to do: Swimming, Canoeing & Kayaking, Archery, Gaga, Climbing Wall, Frisbee, Volleyball, Tennis, Fishing and Bicycling. And there are 12 scenic trails (13 miles total) available for Hiking.

That’s not all to look forward to. We have a few traditional fun events. On your arrival evening, you can look forward to a bonfire and s’mores. On your second evening, there’s our enormously popular Talent Show featuring performers of all ages, no talent required!  The show is followed by board and card games of many kinds. Either evening, for those adults who are so inclined, you can consider sitting around a campfire sipping a libation of your choice.

One of the really nice things about this getaway is that arrival time at the camp is set for 3:00 pm on Saturday afternoon so you drive to the camp after the holiday traffic has thinned out.  And on Monday, we wander on home after a nice lunch and maybe a swim, some of us following a tradition of stopping at the Dairy Queen for ice cream on the way.

Sound inviting? More information heading your way soon.
